The next time you're watching a Happy Madison production, spice things up with this fun party game!

WARNING: Contains mildly raunchy and possibly offensive sound clips, including two slurs. I think they're all from PG13 movies so it's probably fine, just be warned.

ABOUT:

I am fascinated by Adam Sandler and his production company Happy Madison (Named for two of his most successful early films, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison). Sandler himself is actually an extremely talented actor, but the movies he produces mostly follow a very specific formula and are full of a very special kind of lowbrow, and often tasteless and frankly offensive humor. While diving headfirst into the huge library of schlock, my buddy and I started to notice very common themes that arose in almost every single movie we watched. We started to make a game out of it: drink every time someone makes a joke whose punchline is "Kevin James is fat" (despite the fact that James and Sandler are clearly both overweight.) Eventually the list got so long and recording it got so tiresome that I decided ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and made it into bingo.

RULES:

1. Watch ANY Happy Madison comedy*, or comedy movie starring Adam Sandler from before he started Happy Madison. Doesn't have to be an Adam Sandler vehicle, there are plenty of HM films starring Kevin James, Rob Schneider, Dana Carvey and David Spade. From Click and the Longest Yard to I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, almost all of them work and you're likely to get at least one bingo.

*(Reign over me, Funny People, Punch Drunk Love, and Uncut Gems aren't gonna work)

2. Keep an eye out for these fun tropes! Check it off when you see it and take a drink. (I've provided some examples below)

3. When you get a bingo, finish your drink and CRACK A NEW ONE

4. If you aren't getting very many hits you can re-roll. But be careful because you'll have to drink again if there are more gay jokes, and you know there are always more gay jokes.

TROPES/SQUARES:

> Funny voice FREE SPACE - When the main character does a funny voice. (Little Nicky is the premier example.) Adam has made a career out of his naturally goofy little voice so we're just gonna give you this one.

> Rock music soundtrack - This one should be obvious. If there's a Zeppelin song in the opening credits, take two drinks.

> Guy gets hit in the balls - There's a lot of slapstick in Happy Madison movies, so we had to break it into categories. Special points if the camera zooms in on the guy's face and he's like AHHHHH >:0

> Gay Jokes - Two drinks for slurs!

> Potty humor -Need I say more? You saw the tagline.

> Product Placment - Maybe you never noticed, but your brain did. Whenever the characters get excited to go to T.G.I. Fridays or a character's personality trait is chugging Pepto Bisomol when they are stressed, check this one off.

> Trip to Hawaii or other vacation - Like most rich white people, Adam really likes to go to resorts in Hawaii (And who can blame them!) He likes it so much he'll make whole movies set in resorts in Hawaii and cast his kids so he can take the whole family. It isn't always Hawaii, one time they went to Africa. (50 First Dates, Blended. For some reason this happened twice with Drew Barrymore)

> Inexplicable Lady's man - No shame, but the Happy Madison guys are pretty goofy looking and not very charming. So it comes as a big surprise when they play characters whose whole thing is that women are constantly throwing themselves at the guy. (Chuck and Larry is the worst offender of this)

> Wife is out of his league - Similar to the Lady's man, but subtlety different. It requires the main character to NOT be the lady's man. Of course there are tons of movies where both coexist on different characters (Grown-Ups)

> Mention of sports teams or athletes - Usually it's the YANKS the METS and the KNICKS. Double points if they actually go to a sports game. (Jack and Jill)

>Aggressive fat jokes - As mentioned above, Kevin James often gets the brunt of this. Adam seems to really love to make fun of anyone who is a single point over his BMI despite being no Paris Hilton himself.

> Asian Servants - Possibly the most confusing trope is the frequent situation where there's a rich family with a maid or butler or nanny or whatever who is Asian. (Grown-Ups, That's My Boy) I don't even think that is a stereotype, but Adam thinks it is and thinks it's hilarious for some reason.

> Dirty/Sexy Grandmas - It's played as a joke, but I really wonder whether Adam has a thing for elderly women. (Again Grown-Ups and That's My Boy)

> Adam Sandler is good at sports - Adam loves sports and loves to think that if he hadn't gone into Hollywood, that he might have gone pro for the Giants. I don't think so Adam, sorry.

> Someone gets hit with balls - Adam's sports prowess doesn't preclude him from whacking his friends in the face with one of his fly balls. I don't think need to give examples here.

> Making fun of the disabled - Wheelchairs, crutches, people with debilitating mental illnesses, whatever. Extra points for use of the word 'Ret*rd'

> Someone fights an old guy - The old guy always wins. (Happy Gilmore, That's My Boy)

> Miscellaneous (non-ball) violence  - This is the category for anything outside of the other categories of slapstick: guy getting hit in the nuts, sports injuries, and an old guy beating someone up. Stuff like a guy getting hit in the face with a frying pan and his eyes cross and he falls over backwards.

> Immature euphemisms - Adam loves raunchy comedy but doesn't like R ratings. Since his mind is forever stuck as a 14 year old boy, so he talks about sex with child's words. 'Petting my Walrus, Playing twister with your sister', etc.  (50 First Dates, Jack and Jill)

> Adam Sandler has a huge penis - Whenever there is an allusion to the large size of Adam's Don Johnson. (Or another member of the pack. However Bucky Larson is the foil to this trope) Also generally goes along with immature euphemisms.

> Arrested development - A very common through-line in these films is characters who never grew up for various reasons. Personally I think it's a cry for help but who am I to say. (Billy Madison, That's my boy, Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star)

> Average Joe in high-society - Despite being fabulously wealthy, Adam still considers himself an everyman. So it's common for his characters to be intruders into the world of other fabulously wealthy people even when he's playing one of them. Any time there's someone acting the fool and making rich people uncomfortable. (Mr. Deeds, That's My Boy)

> Talentless friends - Adam's friends mean the world to him, which is admirable. He often casts them in tiny easy parts that require no acting at all in order to give them money when no one else will because they haven't been relevant since they were on SNL. (Grown Ups combines this with the vacation one as an excuse to go on vacation with all his friends)

> Anger Problems - Actually one of Adam's greatest strengths as an actor is his ability to give a very convincing portrayal of unbridled rage. (Anger Management, Happy Gilmore)

> Making fun of people with dwarfism - Not one to leave anyone out, Adam wants to make sure little people feel included portraying them being thrown in the air or having a hard time playing basketball.

> Man Dressed as a Woman - They did a whole movie about it with Jack and Jill. Not only does Adam PLAY a woman, the male character he plays also dresses as a woman within the context of the movie. I'd say it only counts if it's played for laughs, but let's be honest, that's every time.

> Rob Schneider racist caricature - I assume that they choose Rob Schneider to play every horrible stereotype of a Native American, Mexican, Asian, and Middle Eastern person since he's 1/4 Filipino (still 3/4 white). At least they cast Terry Crews for African Americans instead of putting Rob in blackface. I still don't think it's okay. Chug your drink when he goes all in on Palestinians (I'm not gonna tell you which movie it is, that can just be a surprise)

> Empty sentimentality - Adam knows that in order for people to feel good about a movie, it should be about family. No matter how much everyone in the movie seems to have hated and tormented each other the entire time, everyone will suddenly make up at the end for no reason despite it being totally unrealistic.

> Racist Mexican stereotypes - Sombreros and mariachi bands at cookouts where they're eating tacos happens one too many times. And yes it's often enough that it gets its own category. The Rob Schneider and Asian servants thing covers most of the other racism that occurs often enough to get a category.

> Emasculation - Often directed at his friends for some reason, he especially likes to make Kevin James feel like a little bitch boy. I don't think that's very nice Adam.

BE CAREFUL WITH THIS GAME! Depending on the card you get, many movies will see you checking off all twelve bingos. And that's really too many drinks for most people. You can give up any time you want, but if you do you also have to stop watching the movie and continue later, and if you don't stop it then you're a little bitch boy you fat little sack of crap.

This is a work of PARODY I DARE you to sue me you hack!!!

(J.K. Adam I love your work)
